Learn about Japanese Culture Day by Day
This book has a little information about Japanese culture separated day by day. Usually the information is seasonal (in case you really want to understand Japan's 24 seasons!) and about various things you can do and why on a particular day. Each day is only .5-1 page long and often it's split into the general information and then a fun tidbit or two. The tidbit can be a related fun fact, recipe, word etymology, etc.
The grammar is not exceptionally difficult, but sometimes the words/kanji can be because the book often favors archaic or less favored kanji (just look at the title for reference). Occasionally there is furigana, especially for plant names (almost always given in kanji), but the vast majority of words have no furigana.
