(4.02/5)I love this series and I love how they use mystery to teach you quantum mechanics. I think if you're new to reading, this is actually a really great series to start with as it is based in every day situations and you can use the vocab you learned in every day phrases.
Some people don't like Sakuta's commentary, but I think its kind of what makes his character unique. In the anime you don't get as much out of him, so it really comes down to preference if you want less teenage lizard brain comments here and there watch the anime instead I guess.
The nice thing about the book is that it does make parts of the book that take seconds in the anime play out longer. I really enjoyed chapter 2 and 3 for that reason. If you are looking for a good paranormal slice of life story where things are normal enough you can still connect with it but just strange enough to expand your vocab on more complicated topics, please give it a go!
Interesting romance with supernatural elements; Would have been a lot better without the sexual commentary sakuta makes but oh well. The first half was pretty dull but it picks up well in the second half to make up for it.

Possibly the best light novel series
I became familiar with the 青春ブタ野郎 series through the anime many years ago. I watched all of the seasons and all of the available movies back then. Since my language skills finally allowed me to read the novels I gave it a go.
I don't think the 1st volume has many cons. Perhaps Mai's attitude is at times a little annoying and the use of a pseudo 3rd person narrator is confusing, but otherwise it's an incredibly solid read. Here are some of the highlights:
I'm looking forward to the subsequent volumes!
