NOT A "Violence Action" Novel
With a book titled ババヤガの夜 that describes itself as シスター・バイレンスアクション you'd imagine a fast paced John Wick style violent action novel that happens in one night. But that is not what we get.
What we get instead is a surprisingly slow paced human drama between two women trying to navigate the world of Yakuza. The daughter of a Yakuza boss and her bodyguard dragged in to the job because the men can't be trusted.
The writing is good. I particularly like the protagonist Yoriko. The beginning was strong but the ending completely ruined it. And te promise of a single night of violence and revenge never paid off, so felt overall disappointed by the end.
At least it was short. And I learned a lot of good N1+ vocabulary. (Current level is high N2 but it's more suitable for high N1 level.)
