I picked this up as my easy book to go alongside a level 30 book and well, it's not actually easy. To be honest, at times this isn't really far off something like キノの旅. Shinichi Hoshi's style is pretty straight forward, but in a number of stories the vocabulary, kanji, and themes are not.
The stories are at a mixture of levels, as the length, vocabulary, and kanji usage varies. For example, easier stories might use kana for かれ whilst others may use 彼.
There's a good splattering of N1/N2 gramm
A mix of easy and hard, all enjoyable stories
I really liked most of the short-short stories of 星新一, this was my first read of this kind. Liking the stories helped with plowing through the difficult ones.
While most of the stories language level is not hard and you should be ok with N3-N2 level and good kanji knowledge, some stories are difficult to grasp. I don't believe the difficulty comes from the language level per se but from the writing style. It is a very elliptical, minimal style and this does not sit well, if you are not comforta
