Nii, who lost his parents at a young age and was kicked out of his extended family's home, had his first relationship when he was in high school with a university student. After their messy breakup, he's dated other people, but he's never really been the same, blaming himself and his "too heavy love" for the breakup. When he stumbles across his old co-worker, Kunitachi, they end up rescuing and adopting a stray kitten together, and Kunitachi slowly becomes a part of Nii's life.
This is one of those books that just feels like it was made for me. Other than one case of reusing a very similar plot point mere pages apart, it didn't feel like it overstayed its welcome at all. I felt the ending was maybe a little weak in that it seemed to be setting up ~something~ and didn't follow through with it, but I wasn't disappointed in the slightest.
Their eventual relationship is by no means their first, meaning they're both very comfortable in their identities as gay men, which was quite refreshing for me.
There's little furigana throughout, with furigana only used for names extremely sparingly. I took a break to read something else partway through and when I came back I had forgotten how the main characters first names were pronounced & there was no intro page with character names and illustrations for me to flick back and find out the names again so I just kind of guessed lol.
