A Delightfully Unhurried Tale of Magic and Discovery
Entertainment: The story kicks off at a brisk pace, immediately immersing the reader into the world of スランタニア without dwelling too much on Sei's arrival in this isekai. Sei is summoned to this new world during a holy ceremony intended to call forth the Saint, a figure prophesied to cleanse the world of its miasmas and revered as a hero. However, the ceremony unexpectedly summons two girls, and Sei is sidelined when the other is deemed the true Saint. Left without a way to return home, Sei is forced to explore and navigate her new surroundings.
Language Learning: The Japanese level is quite accessible, though I would note that the main challenges might include frequent use of 敬語 and specific terms related to the formation of knightly orders, royal titles, and other noble or political positions (eg. 辺境伯). Aside from this, sentence structures are generally standard and straightforward. A proficiency level of N2 should suffice for comfortable reading of this book.
Overall: The narrative development following Sei's arrival in the new world is gradual and deliberate, maintaining a leisurely pace that never feels rushed. The story consistently engages, with smooth and compelling writing that encourages readers to eagerly anticipate what comes next. Sei meets a variety of characters (all of whom are イケメン), but unlike the typical isekai trope of an ordinary individual suddenly surrounded by a harem, this story maintains a mature tone. Despite Sei's quick accumulation of male admirers, the narrative remains thoughtful and avoids veering into overly saccharine or frivolous territory. This makes the book appealing to a broad audience, including male readers, and not just a female demographic. I am eagerly looking forward to the next installment and highly recommend this book, especially if you appreciate stories that unfold at their own pace without relying on non-stop action.
