Now that I'm more fluent at reading I think I can form a more definitive opinion on this manga (so far). It really strikes me as a very journeyman piece; it's got all the necessary elements to be a real banger but the flare just isn't there yet. Most damningly (besides the lying covers) is the pacing is always not quite apace; in better works you always have a good sense of the passage of time, when things are in flashback or not, etc. Here while there is a throughline stuff just sort of happens, jumping from plot beat to plot beat; there never really quite feels like there's time to breath. The scan quality is still hideous but that's neither here nor there really. Still, we're in the endgame by the feel of things, so I will probably end up finishing out the series.
