What‘s special here is that stray cats themselves are the leads. It‘s about their lives, gangs, fights, friendship, and in volume #1 about the white one‘s first winter (no furigana i.e. aimed at adults, ongoing series, L18 is too low imho).

Don’t underestimate the difficulty just because it’s a funny book narrated by a cat: the cat never uses a simple word when an obscure one is available, and loves complicated sentences. Plus the book is stuffed with references to Japanese, Chinese and Western literature and history, so you really need an edition with explanatory endnotes. But if you’re interested in the period when Soseki was writing and your Japanese is up to an L48 book then I think it’s worth the effort.
