An aspiring writer from Osaka that came from difficult conditions deals with her family, her past, her body and her growing desire to become a mother. Feels super authentic and real, the Osaka-ben is just a joy to read in and of itself, and it touches on a bunch of different topics. Certain parts towards the latter stages almost had me crying, which is not something that has really happened to me before when reading books.

It's the longest book i've read this year, but worth every page. If you're interested in contemporary japanese literature, there's no way past Kawakami.
