Written in the 1870s, this is quite an enjoyable story about a man who moves from Madrid to a conservative and rural area of Spain to marry his cousin. The first half of the book, as the tension builds, is good fun.
The narrative style is (obviously) a bit dated. There are long dialogues which, especially later in the book, I got a bit tired of. However I was surprised at how straightforward this was to read. There are a few grammatical structures that are unusual in other books I have read, but the vocab was relatively straightforward.
Overall, I would recommend this if you are already confident reading at this level and want to try some more literary works.
My favourite word from this book is: cejijunto (monobrowed)
