This is the film to watch if you like psychedelic patterns and art that says 'yes, I want that one' to all the colors. It has the visual lushness of the anime series but turned up to 11 - though I did think the writing was a bit weaker, and it is pretty obviously meant to be followed up on by the other films in the trilogy.
In terms of language: as much as I loved the visual, there is a lot to take in because they are VERY detailed and bright and there are some sections where a character is talking over quick cuts between different scenes. This can be distracting from understanding what is being said! I was watching with subtitles, and I felt like that helped to combat the sensory overload. There are some archaic and rarer terms used due to the setting; in particular, the beginning throws a lot of the Ooku titles at you, though you can pick up the ones that are most important to the characters decently through the kanji + context. Several scenes have characters talking over each other.
