Book 2 is a huge improvement from book 1 (which is still good). If you've seen the anime adaptation, the major points are the same, but there's a variety of differences in how the story actually plays out. The anime adaptation only had 12 episodes to work within, so that's totally understandable. I like the book version much more (but the anime version is good too)
Unlike book 1, which has a very flat pace, this story starts and ends with some really solid action. There is definitely some element of repetitiveness (like book 1) in the first half, but the circumstances suddenly change on them, causing the characters to change things up, and go through a lot of growth and evolution throughout the novel. After various ups, downs, and unexpected events, the group is finally coming into their element, in a really exciting way.
I'm definitely excited for the next book!
