24 texts from a variety of sources and formats. There are essays, poems, songs and much more, even an excerpt of the constitution. The chapters can be read in any order as they aren't arranged by difficulty.
Basic structure
Next to the title and author is a single sentence about the topic/style/special characteristic of the text. (Just take it with a grain of salt if something is described as ユーモラス)
There is a column to the side of the text with the new vocabulary in dictionary form to make it easier to look up, as well as questions to test your understanding. The answers to these can be found at the end of the book. Unfortunately the answers are often in the form of "direct quote from the text + こと", rather than restating the concept using different words
At the end the source and some additional information about the author, like their job, are listed
There is furigana for the first occurrence of N3+ kanji
The texts themselves are between 1 and 4 pages long, although that is with generous spacing and illustrations.
The vocabulary list at the end of the book can be a bit hit and miss. Some are very helpful as they not only show the standard translation but also the meaning in this specific context, but there are also some where I felt like they picked the shortest single word translation for a word that has no English equivalent in order to fit all the languages on the same line.
Overall, even though it has some faults, I felt like the selection of the material was well done.
