A story about a young girl realising that her family isn't as well-off as those of her friends, and seeing the toll the financial strain and stress of work puts on her mother especially, she's comes up with a plan to help.
I'm not part of the book's target demographic, so it's hardly a surprise I didn't particularly enjoy it, but I feel like the story could have been improved. While the majority of the book describes occasions when the main character notices the differences between her own family and others', the climax where the girl "protects" her mother doesn't seem to fit well with the themes explored in the story up until that point, making the ending feel jarring.
Language-wise, it's a good choice if you're looking to move on from graded readers and easier children's books, as it's fairly simple, using common vocabulary and grammar. There's also an audiobook available, which is just over an hour long, so it's a relatively quick read.
