A cute manga about a reclusive, anxious, socially awkward mystery writer who picks up a stray cat when she eats the offerings at his parents grave. He's been living alone since his parents died in an accident while travelling, has never had many friends, and has never had a pet before. A lot of the manga is he and the cat, ハル, learning how to live together and become a family. Each chapter starts out from his pov, and then switches to ハル's pov of the same events. Really, it's just a sweet, heartwarming, and sometimes heart-wrenching found family story about a guy and his cat ...and his editor, and his childhood friend, and the pet store lady, and the pet store lady's little brother.
There's also a beautiful anime adaptation for those interested! It made me cry. The cat DOES NOT die. It's not that kind of story.
There's very little to no furigana in this manga, but the dialogue is not complex and words tend to repeat. The cast of characters is also very small, so that makes it easy to get used to different characters' speech quirks. It's also a slice-of-life story, so other than a few publishing industry words, there's no uncommon vocabulary.
Overall, I found it easier to read and understand than some series I've read with full furigana due to the relative simplicity of the plot and language and lack of world building to explain.
