Excellent Setup But Falls Short

The story mainly occurs within Hong Kong in the 1980's where the protagonist Fu has come to deliver the remains of her mother, and learn more about where she comes from.

The setting of this novel is so cool, hong kong in the 1980's, there is political tension, class issues, and a deep societal underbelly where action abounds. The novel sets it up perfectly too for it's great characters. This novels got a lot going for it, however my issues with the novel are numerous.

I'll be brief and say that I felt that the novel didn't flesh out all of the exciting hooks it could of, instead opting to focus on what i would consider less compelling plot points, and the resolutions the author choose felt very deus ex machina to me.
