Basically, what this textbook does is teach basic Japanese grammar by deconstructing lines of dialogue from manga. It's dense but short, it's inexpensive, it wastes no time on drills or quizzes, and all of its examples are taken from actual manga. I really, really liked it.
If you are studying Japanese solely to read manga and play video games, this is the textbook I would recommend starting out with. However, if you are studying Japanese primarily to talk to other people or to get a job in Japan someday, you'd be better served with a more traditional textbook such as Genki.
