This is a review for the combined 上・下 set.
Language learning notes: Vocab spread is a little wide, but nothing specialized. I don't think the writing is very flowery, but it's descriptive and relies more on inner thoughts than dialogue to tell the story.
Review: This book starts off with a murder and then introduces you to several parallel and seemingly unrelated story lines. Each story has fleshed out characters with their own backstory, sorrows, and desires. As you go through the book you start to pick up hints as to how each story line may be connected to the fleeing murderer.
I found this book immensely satisfying and the ending packed a punch. It was not a 'tidy with a little bow on top' ending though, which I also appreciated. This author did a good job of not overwriting.
If you like slow burn character driven stories with multiple seemingly unrelated mains, this is a book for you.
