Good beginner's book

Read this as my first book in Japanese because it was one of he few ebooks available in Amazon in my country. I started it when I was halfway studying Genki 2, so the grammar and vocabulary were a bit of a challenge, but it really helped me up my reading comprehension skills. I read it on kindle using a Japanese to English dictionary, which made the experience easier as I could just click on a word and get the definition.

Entertainment ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Story wise is a very basic book and many people might already know the story by now. It's episodic, meaning that each chapter is a little story in its own. That makes it fun to read from time to time and take breaks from the book without losing track of the argument, but might make it boring for those who want to read it in one go.

Language learning ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The episodic structure has the advantage that new vocabulary is being introduced constantly but has the disadvantage that new vocabulary is being introduced constantly. I would recommend acompanying this book with an RSR vocabulary learning system so that you can add new words and study them and make them stick. Otherwise you will encounter some words 10 times or so, which for me wasn't enough to make them stick.

My version of the book didn't have furigana. This made it scary at first but I do believe you need to let go the crutches of furigana in the end and this might be a good bok to do so.

As for grammar, it doesn't have very scary grammar on it, but I did struggle with some longer sentences. I would say that is because this was my first book in Japanese, and I got more comfortable with the writting style as the book progressed.
