Why a new girl, Maya, joins her class, Chloe and her friends refuse to play with her. Instead, they whisper to each other and laugh at her, while Maya plays by herself. One day, Maya stops coming to school. After a lesson on kindness, Chloe finds herself thinking more and more about the way she treated Maya.

This is a story about kindness, and how our words and actions affect those around us more than we would think. It's surprisingly solemn considering the age range it's aimed at, but that does give the message more impact. The watercolour illustrations that accompany the story are gorgeous, too.

As this is a translation from an English book set in America (original title: Each Kindness), language learners may find this makes it a more accessible story. Although still a children's picture book, the text is longer and a bit more complex than the language you would find in a story for younger children.
