This review only covers the first book, so for those of you who have the newer (combined) edition, this is all of the こども chapters and chapters 1-4 of the おとな section. For the rest, see my other review.
Enjoyment: 5/5
I really enjoyed this manga! To be honest, while I do like the game Ocarina of Time, it's far from my favorite Zelda, but I adored this manga. The events from the game translate well to a manga format, and unlike 神々のトライフォース, the authors stretched this story over two volumes instead of just one, so the pacing was much better.
There are quite a few changes from the game, but they were reasonable, and some were even more impactful than the original game. At first I wasn't sure about Link's characterization in this manga; it's so different from how I imagine his personality to be. But I quickly got used to it. I really felt for him the whole time too; the emotional story beats hit so hard.
Language Learning: 5/5
Not much to say here, it's about the same difficulty as 神々のトライフォース (this is the only other Zelda manga I've read so far which is why I keep bringing it up). If you've read any other Zelda manga you'll notice a lot of the same vocab. It's medieval fantasy, but the writing's not archaic, and I'd say it's a good introduction to the genre.
A great adaptation of Ocarina of Time!
