アラカルト is an anthology type Kemono Friends manga, with short chapters that are each made by different artists. This means that there’s no overarching plot, nor a whole lot of unique vocab that repeats outside of character-specific goals and occupations. (Like アルパカさん’s restaurant, which shows up surprisingly often.) It’s definitely in the CGDCT type of category. The difficulty level of each section also differs a bit.
I definitely liked some chapters more than others. サーバルちゃん struggling with a swing set was definitely a highlight. While the chapter that was animal facts via fan service was a bit more grating to get though, but thats all just a matter of personal tastes. Overall I found it pretty cute and silly.
The grammar and vocabulary isn’t anything too terribly tricky for most of the sections, and the full furigana made lookups with a physical version quick, although one or two gave me a bit of trouble as a beginner learner. The only thing that’s fairly prevalent that might turn you away is that a lot of characters have speech quirks, which are mostly at the end of their sentences. I found that it was fairly easy to figure them out for the most part.
I was vaguely familiar with Kemono Friend’s basic plot before reading this, having watched an episode or two of the anime a handful of years ago. As long as you know that this takes place in Japari Park, where only one human (かばんちゃん) exists and the rest of the population is humanized animals, you’ll be more than fine.
There’s also a small handful of yuri-bait panels, which is always welcomed in my books!
Overall I’d say: It’s not anything particularly groundbreaking, but you’ll definitely learn some animal names and I personally had a pretty good time with it.
