A Legal Drama of Underdog Triumphs
Synopsis
A law firm staffed with a pair of brilliant lawyers and a pair of paralegals take on seemingly hopeless defendant cases with a lot of buzz around the case, and go above and beyond to collect all the information and proofs they need to stand their ground and convince the judge in the courtroom. Even if that involves infiltrating a company as a janitor to get intel on its internal practices.
The star of this character-driven show is 神波 涼子 (かんなみ りょうこ), a young proactive and very confident lawyer with an unusual academic career and an even more unusual modus operandi, which often clashes with the expectations of her more established lawyer partner 杉浦 義弘 (すぎうら よしひろ). The interaction between the duo is one of the highlights of the show.
Together, they unearth the truth behind the overly simplistic surface-level narrative that's got the internet buzzing about the case. If you like underdog stories or stories where justice finally prevails, I think you'll love this.
Language
I'd place the series in Natively video levels in the 27–32 range, but once you've mined all the legal jargon like 集団訴訟, 被告, and 提訴, I think it becomes a lot easier. Although, I have to say that a lot of scenes are just people dialoguing around a table so there aren't many visual clues unfortunately. News reporting scenes also come up from time to time.
If you've looked into the production details of the show, you may have discovered that the series is produced by 関西テレビ, but I haven't heard any 関西 dialect so far.
I'll end this section on a word of advice: you must memorize and keep track of the names of everyone or else you will feel totally lost.
