Second installment in the series. I think the first book is better, but this one was pretty enjoyable based on the premise more than the execution. It’s not connected to the first book really, you don’t need to read that to read this.
People who cut their lives short must pass an audition in order to pass on to the pool of souls allowed to reincarnate. If they don’t pass the audition, they must roam the cold dark place for thousands of years as punishment for ending their given life short. Not fun. Aaand they only have 10 chances to pass the audition. They can sing, dance, show their personal talent, etc. and in order to pass, they must make the judge cry.
Except, our MC was just trying to save someone from dying, he didn’t mean to cut his own life short! There’s been a clerical error, so shouldn’t he sent back to the living world?! Or at least pass the audition without having to do it!
I wish the book was a little deeper due to the subject, but it is a YA novel. The plot didn’t really go anywhere but you do learn more about each of the characters. I wanted to know more about the afterlife and underworld they were in but we didn’t get to see much about it. I also wanted to know more about what happened in the end but I was left with questions!
Not too difficult to understand, I did look up some words here and there which can be expected with books with fantasy elements. I did cry at the end, so I did enjoy it for that at least.
