A prude's kryptonite
This is a book by Mr. Horimoto, one half of the YouTube Channels "ゆる言語学ラジオ" "ゆるコンピュータ科学ラジオ" and "積読チャンネル" among others (the links to which I will put at the end of this review as they produce quite interesting videos and are particularly good for immersing in Japanese in my opinion).
Now, Mr. Horimoto is not a stranger to dirty jokes. He will often butt into conversations with a dirty joke or some perverse observation, but usually the other half of the duo will shut him down with something like "it's not that kind of show haha."
But what if there were nobody there to stop him? This book is the result of such a scenario.
This book is filled to the brim with all manner of dirty jokes and perverse trivia that only someone as perverse as Mr. Horimoto himself could enjoy. I would liken this book to a prisoner who has escaped from jail. With nobody left to hold them back, there is nothing stopping them from enacting the depraved fantasies that have been cooped up in the recesses of their mind.
Reading this book I am reminded of Mishima Yukio's "Confessions of a Mask" (仮面の告白) not because of the contents of the book itself, but the way in which the book acts as a window directly into the soul of the author. In the case of this book, a window I wish came furnished with a curtain so that I could block the view into such depravity.
The cover of this book is emblazoned with the phrase 「ダンダン頭がよくなる」, however I would submit that the 頭 in this case is not the one attached to the neck, but Mr. Horimoto's...
I'm going to stop myself there before I reduce myself to the same level of degradation as Mr. Horimoto. It appears the perverseness of this book has spread to me like a disease or corruption. I will seek penitence at the nearest church after submitting this review.
From a language point of view this book is written in quite a conversational style, so grammatically its not so difficult. However, in terms of vocabulary this book might prove a challenge as there is abundant use of words used to describe various body parts and sexual acts, as well as historical words, on top of Mr. Horimoto's already verbose way of talking.
I would recommend this book only to those with a high tolerance for dirty jokes, an interest in trivia, or people wanting to enhance their vocabulary with "certain" kinds of words. Those looking for a more in depth discussion of sexology or the sexual practices of other cultures/cultures long past had better look elsewhere.
