Book review:
Kataoka recreates in a very attractive way the rebellious youth of the 80s and delves into the opposition between the city and the countryside through a motorbike trip around Japan in an almost sensory experience: the mountains of Nagano, the coast of Kamakura, the great avenues of Tokyo or the islands of the Seto Inland Sea. It really feels like you're driving the protagonist's Kawasaki around those places. Romance, motorcycling and city pop, a very good combination.
Language learning review:
The driving/speed/mechanical related language is a bit hard to grasp at first, but once you get used to it, it's an easy story to follow. These are the recollections of a romance over a year or so, with a lot of dialogue between the protagonist and the girl and with detailed narrations of the protagonist's motorcycle outings. It has a couple of filler chapters that make you lose the story a bit.
