アディオス、アミーゴ

東京ミュウミュウオーレ! vol. 1 was a lot of fun! The world is in danger from aliens who parasitize animals to turn them into giant monsters, and only our heroes, the Mew-Mew boys, can save the world!

...The premise is exactly as ridiculous as it sounds, and the manga acknowledges that and runs with it. Each boy has the powers of a specific animal, and has their own magical girl transformation and catch phrase that they'll shout out (willingly or not) as they do battle against evil. Leading our group is the intrepid 日向あんず, who makes up for her lack of animal powers with an incredible level of geekiness for endangered species and animal facts in general.

There's full furigana throughout the book and text density is relatively low; however, most of the characters use a fair bit of teen slang and casual speech; there are a few sci-fi/technical words strewn about when plot explanation is necessary. It's a breezy, goofy read that can easily trick some learners once they run headfirst into non-standard Japanese.

Will definitely be continuing the series to see how this all plays out, and if the mangaka can keep topping themselves with all the goofy charm flowing about.
