I'll mention first that the show's setting on one of the Canary Islands is spectacular. Lava tubes leading to the ocean, black volcanic sand beaches, lava flows half buried under white sand as they run into the ocean. It's worth watching just for that. Really.
Reading the blurb and looking at the cover art, I thought this was going to be a comedy about the clash of cultures when a group of super online young adults find themselves stuck on an island with a bunch of hippy dippy new agers. Ummm, .... no, ... 'cause the new agers are really a homicidal doomsday cult that tricks new members, those poor, unsuspecting super online young adults, into coming to their island and kills anyone that tries to leave ... or doesn't smile properly.
So, ... yeah, ... not what I expected. Still, kinda fun.
From a language point of view, I was expecting to struggle more. Teens and college age folk are hard for me, too much slang, and when you get the super online type ... oy. But that wasn't a problem here. The only character I struggled with was Charly and the cast is big enough that he didn't get a chance to speak much. There is one Argentinian with a milder accent and a Mexican while the rest have fairly standard Spanish accents, nothing too unusual. Lot's of new age circles talking about feelings ... and then getting together later to talk about who they are going to kill ...
If you're looking to try your first (or second) contempory Spanish tv series, this could be a good choice. Unlike Alta Mar, there aren't half as many funky accents which could help with comprehension. However, it's also not as openly soapy and requires more attention to follow the story.
