A Melancholic Murder Mystery

As others have said, this is an entertaining and approachable, upper-intermediate level novel. It didn't leave me pondering philosophically but it does place its characters into some rough moral quandaries. It's popular for a reason and a solid read, but the ending left me a little melancholic.

As for the language, you get lots of exposure to crime-related vocabulary. It may also improve your geographic understanding of Eastern Tokyo. The physics and math related bits were a bit hard to follow at times, but it's directed at a mainstream audience so don't worry about that too much.

Overall I can definitely recommend if you're into realistic crime or mystery stories and have an intermediate Japanese level.
