The story is pretty bland. There are some funny moments in the story just because the characters are doing or saying strange/awkward things. It's similar to a B grade movie in that regard.
If you're learning from the みんなの日本語 textbook series and already finished book 1, it's a great choice for extensive reading because you'll already know 90+% of the vocabulary and grammar.
