This is the part of the story where Rei’s situation changes to an upward trajectory, from the low point where volume 1 ended. There’s a lot of growing up in this volume, for everyone.

The first half of the book finishes up the school year, with Rei making friends and getting more involved in school activities. When the school year ends, he returns to Japan, and then there’s a time skip to 8 years later for the second half. Rei, age 24 and living in Tokyo, has a job working for an art publisher where he can put both his multilingualism and art knowledge to use. And then Ed shows up in Tokyo.
