The story follows 20 year old 聖輔 as he navigates life in Tokyo after having to drop out of university due to his mother's death.
There's no major plot twists or anything, but I didn't get bored while reading despite the simplicity.
The writing is very straightforward, but it still felt authentic to me. Language wise the only "difficult" thing could be the quite casual language in some of the dialogue, though there's not a ton of slang, so it should be easy enough to get used to. The vocabulary consists of words you come across in everyday life and isn't literary, so I would even recommend this as a first novel.
Many of the feelings described in this novel are things that are quite easy to relate to for most people I think. A thing I also really enjoyed about this is 聖輔 himself, as an ordinary, yet kind and likeable main character.
Overall, this was a comfortable read for me and it felt refreshing in a way. The novel ultimately has a warm and positive feel to it and I guess that's just what I was looking for. It was a case of "right book at the right time".
