This show really caught me by surprise (there's only 4 eps released so far). The main character is a lot more interesting than I expected. She's simultaneously very shrewd, matter of fact about her circumstances, and self-confident, while also having a wide-eyed with wonder childish side when it comes to anything apothecary related (or as a friend put it, 夢中すぎて周りを全然気づいていない)... all while keeping herself out of trouble (as much as possible). The series also has its lighter and more comedic moments, but not in a way that ruins the overall feeling.
Linguistically the challenging part about the show is all the Chinese imperial court-related vocabulary (the show is in a fictional land, inspired by historical China). If you're not familiar with that already, you may want to spend some time going through the jpdb deck for the light novel, or just making flash cards from the subtitles.
I'm definitely curious to see where the show goes, and to check out the light novel | L38 and manga | L30 someday.
