밤에 찾아오는 구원자

A gothic vampire story in the vein of Carmilla, Anne Rice or Only Lovers Left Alive.

I really enjoyed this story. It has a majority female cast which was a breath of fresh air from the majority of books I read and is in a genre I generally really enjoy in books.

While the plot wasn't outstandingly unique, the writing was atmospheric and sucked you into the characters and their perspectives on life and loneliness. From the coldly pragmatic female detective, to the young adoptee full of yearning to the bitter and desperate nurse.

Here's an example of the kind of vibes I mean:

낮에 뜬 구름보다 밤에 뜬 구름이 더 예쁘다. 해는 바라볼 수 없지만 달은 바라볼 수 있고, 해는 별을 감추지만 달은 별과 함께 뜬다. 밤에 듣는 새소리는 귀가 아닌 마음을 두드리고, 낮 동안 움직이지 않던 나무들은 그제야 부스스, 몸을 털어 낸다. 고양이 눈치를 보느라 움직이지 못했던 들쥐와 그들을 노리는 맹금류의 눈이 소란스럽게 지나가고, 그것들이 스쳐 지나간 자리에는 계절이 내려앉는다. 새싹과 꽃잎은 사람들의 눈을 피해 자랐다. 부끄러움이 많아서 그렇다.부끄러움이 많은 것들은 낮이 아니라 밤에 움직였다.
