Not As Funny As It Thinks
You'd think a story about a man in his 70s, who's been a spy all his life (but his first job is in his 70s) getting caught up with thieves and assasins and a giant squirrel would be a fun romp, not a massive slog. But massive slog it is.
The main character is supposed to be a spy but he's on a mission to kill the mayor (not spy on him???) and then he "accidentally" tells people "I'm a spy sent to kill the mayor." Said people being characters like Madam Stealth who also tell him everything about themselves too because "lol, woopsie!" That's not funny.
I should have read Japanese reviews before picking this up, because other people seem to agree this book tries so hard to be funny that it stops being funny.
