While I can see where this anime definitely won't be for everyone, for me this was a really special and unique entry. The pacing and mood, the way it tells the story cinematically, the use of space and pauses, the seriousness and realism with which it treats the main characters' relationship, switch between their perspectives, etc, all added up to an incredible experience, and this is definitely one of my favorite anime so far this year. It does have some flaws, namely that the character development and perspective can feel very one-sided (this seems to be a side-effect of them fitting 4 LNs into 12 episodes, b/c of where they needed to end the story for the season), and also that some of the side characters were either incredibly one-dimensional or unrealistic. Anyway, overall I'm really glad I watched this, and would definitely recommend.
Anyway, it inspired me to start the The light novel | L30, which has an audiobook that's excellently narrated by Saki's voice actress as well.
