The first half of was really cool! A lot of character development, the author is so good at describing character motivations and inner thoughts/reasoning. I could feel the shame that the characters were feeling, I could follow along with a character‘s thoughts even when they were completely overthinking things, because it was written in such a relatable way!
The story buildup was realistic and a lot of things made you want to read on to figure out more! The sentences did get pretty long sometimes, which might be a hurdle for some. But that was the only difficult aspect, language-wise.
Sadly, I didn’t like the ending at all. The twist felt really sudden and out of nowhere, which kind of took me out of the story.
Also, Nanako being so overly concerned about her daughter’s scar felt a bit overdone? Surely a small scar on her forehead wouldn’t „damage“ her whole worth/beauty as a girl. That was another point I found slightly unrealistic. But maybe that’s just Japan‘s beauty standards?
