This story is pretty short and good for learners. It contains a decent amount of furigana (mostly only on first appearance of a kanji), which is especially helpful for the various kinds of animals and some old-fashioned writings of words. I would say there are a lot of words that a beginner has to look up, but you should not be discouraged by that. Overall it is a great read.
