Well, this is my first experience with a TL book, so I don’t know how representative that book is, but it was not what I expected. Specifically, I assumed the book would be a succession of “sexy” scenes poorly linked by a very basic plot. Instead, it was mostly plot (and a good one at that, by light novel standards) with barely any smut. (Warning: it’s still there; don’t assume it’s just a light novel). Since I saw reviews online complaining about it, I assume that it’s not standard for the genre?
I did appreciate that all sexy scenes are consensuals, and that the author explicitly states that some acts do not feel painful/uncomfortable (wether you believe it or not is up to your suspension of disbelief, I guess, but I appreciate the consideration for the reader).
In terms of learning, it’s a bit harder to judge. Most of the book is at the same level as your average light novel. The smutty part, on the other hand, have “dialogues” that are basically just successions of んん, あふ, and other うぅぅ. At the same time, you will learn some kanji and words for anatomical parts that you most likely did not come across in other types of books.
Overall, well, it is smut, but it was still a fun read.
