Fun and chaotic death game story!
“Please find a partner.” These are the words Mishin Mizushima dreads more than anything. Isolated from all of her classmates, she has become nothing more than a ghost haunting the halls. And who would want to pair up with a ghost? Not a soul. Mishin is always left to partner with the gym teacher—a creepy old man who definitely took the job solely because it’s at an all-girls school. Her classmates? They pretend not to notice.
This is such an enthralling novel that draws attention to “silent bullying”. No bad names are being called. No one is being kicked or beaten up. No lunch money is being stolen. But someone is being relentlessly ignored. Could this still be called “bullying”? When someone is in a state of such severe social isolation, how can they get out?
Oh, and also! This is a death game story.
This absolutely slapped for me. Yeah from a literary perspective it’s not perfect, some things are predictable and others questionable, but from an entertainment perspective this was a 15/10. If you get popcorn to accompany this, it better be a giant bag because the drama keeps on flowing. Friendships and betrayals abound! Kina does a great job at getting you to care about characters in so few pages. She can make up the most ridiculous backstory yet somehow have it be believable. And she also included a trans and a lesbian character, bless 😭❤️ I’ve heard her other novel also has a sapphic relationship, so I’ll definitely be picking that up soon too! (Especially bc I already bought it ages ago.. eek 😅)
