Almost an ideal first manga
Haven't finished the book yet, but wanted to point out how bizarrely perfect the first chapters were as a beginner's first Japanese manga (who randomly chose this volume because it just so happened to be the cheapest one on Ebay.)
The first chapter has Yotsuba play pretend and hide and seek. She pretends to wake up and go to sleep and says phrases accordingly. Then during hide and seek, the names of rooms are listed off - it felt like reading a practice story DESIGNED for beginners to see vocab! The next chapter she tries cooking, and this is accompanied by a lot of early vocab, and was very easily digestible.
Difficulty went way up however in a chapter that featured adults talking about life matters, so it isn't astonishingly easy the whole way through, but this manga was a great first step for me.
