This book was a blast! I seen it described as a short story collection but it's more like a comedic satirical romp though all of the detective/crime genre tropes.
Detective Ogawara hates his life. He's stuck playing the clueless police detective, second fiddle to the main character - the famous genius detective Tenkaichi.
Because this is the Detective Tenkaichi Series you see. Tenkaichi gets to turn up unannounced, solve all the crimes and make the big dramatic speech at the end, while Ogawara has to spend the whole story following dead ends and coming to the wrong conclusions.
From whodunnits to locked room mysteries to the final words of a dying man scratched out in blood no cliché is spared. This was very fun and silly. Ogawara and Tenkaichi are constantly breaking the fourth wall to complain about how unrealistic something it, point out plot holes or just generally bitch about how tired and overdone the trope is. Especially the locked room mystery, don't get them started on that.
