Good series for someone who's already watched a show or two, to expand or reinforce what they know! Vocab and grammar are on the simpler side, and there isn't a lot of highly specific magic/fantasy vocabulary. The show itself is a slow burn from the late 90s, and took me somewhere between ep 4-8, until I was sure I wanted to keep watching.

The story and episodes are pretty straightforward, a mix of slice of life + action. So even if you don't understand everything being said, you're not too lost. It's definitely harder than Flying Witch (easy first show), and probably a bit harder than やがて君になる. Otoh, it's way easier than Fate/Kaleid liner プリズマ☆イリヤ (which is basically "Fate meets Card Captor Sakura"). Unlike Fate, Card Captor Sakura contains zero fan service, which is really refreshing.

One of the main cast uses 関西弁 (Kansai dialect), but it's not very heavy. Some basic examples of Kansai dialect (google "kansai ben" for more):

  • いい = ええ
  • ダメ = あかん
  • 犬(だよ) = 犬(やで)
  • えらい = すごい
  • わから(ない) = わから(へん)
  • わかって(いる) = わかって(おる)
  • わかってる) = わかっとる)
  • 本当 = ほんま
