In some ways, it's a bog-standard fantasy story. Actually, it's mostly just a bog-standard fantasy story - but it's well executed, with some neat narrative twists and it's hard not to sympathise with the characters even when they're doing their blockhead-knights shtick.
One thing I liked a lot is that it doesn't take the easy way out, use the rule-of-cool, engage in fanservice of any description, or generally not do any of the things it says it's going to do. In a lot of scenes, there is probably a "cooler" option available - the fights could be much flashier, or the protagonists could be given special treatment, or something established that doesn't happen could happen for dramatic closure ... but it doesn't. While the protagonists are important, they're not special - and with so many special chosen ones that the world revolves around, it's really refreshing to see.
(well, they are special chosen ones, but the thing they've been chosen for is incredibly lame and anticlimactic)
The flowers don't even bloom at the end. It's the most obvious, expected thing that would happen for the sake of dramatic closure ... and it just doesn't. Love itDifficultywise - it's pretty easy. If you have your fantasy vocabulary down there's very little here that will be a problem.
