A novel use of reincarnation

An interesting story set in a world terrorized by the powerful 魔王国. After the main character suffers a humiliating defeat in an all out effort to assasinate the country's sovereign, he finds himself reborn as the 7th prince of the very country he has despised for so very long. You follow the main character growing up and building up trust with those around him, all the while keeping his vengeful ambitions under wraps.

Although the citizens aren't monsters, they do have some barbaric practices, traditions, and principles the character is forced to participate in to retain his guise. It can be conflicting to learn more about the main character's former life and understanding his motives, but also growing attached to the people in his current life. This is probably what I like the most about this novel.

The worldbuilding so far has not been anything too special, but isn't too generic either. It is interesting to learn how the many races with their own unique traits and statuses live together communally.

Lots of 傍点. The vocabulary use is pretty average; not that hard if you are acquainted with the typical fantasy words. The hardest part of this novel is the use of 役割語. Many characters speak with varying levels of olden speech (食ろうたんじゃろ,・斯様,・我); this especially true for second most important character. This raised the book's learning value for me, but it may well be inhibiting for beginners.

Overall, I would recommend this novel if you enjoy fantasy and need a bit of a break from the typical 異世界 :)
