Wotakoi is a series that's at its best when we get to see the full cast of characters experience the ups and downs of everyday life. This novelization, in comparison, feels very out of balance and often one-note because it focuses so much on Hirotaka's point of view and the beginning of his and Narumi's relationship.
As a big fan of the manga and anime I thought I would enjoy seeing a fresh perspective on the events that kicked off the whole series, but three whole chapters of Hirotaka's take on Narumi when they first started working together in an eight chapter book was too much for me. Plus, there are two more chapters that are also from Hirotaka's POV and another where, although he's not narrating, his actions drive the whole plot... but at least those are stories original to this book and felt a little more fresh to read.
On the other hand, I thought the two remaining chapters (Kou POV - how she and Naoya became friends and Hanako POV - first date with Kabakura) were a lot of fun to read and exactly what I was hoping for from this book. Not having a Naoya or a Kabakura POV is a real missed opportunity, and to all but the most hardcore Wotakoi fans I would recommend just giving the manga another read instead of picking this up.
