"you know what would make people want to consume heartcatch precure. if it was a book"
This book didn't really need to exist. Only the first 2 chapters are anything new, and the other 3 are all summary of the anime, with random changes here and there in fight scenes or descriptions that don't account for anything.
The amount of new information this book gives could be covered in a 3 episode OVA at most. There was some stuff that was nice to have that was missing from the anime, but most of that was in the first 2 chapters and the only newer part after that was about Dune's backstory in the final chapter. Chapter 4 was especially bad and had virtually nothing new from the anime.
Useless additions include two different bath scenes, both of which didn't have to take place in the bath / hot spring. Makes you wonder what the intention is here.
There are fanfiction out there that will write a story from another character's perspective. That can be interesting, but it was hardly executed here at all. I expected this book to quickly summarize various in-show events and focus on Yuri's mental states throughout the series, as well as potentially add new conversations that would deepen her relationship with the other characters. That was too much to hope for. I guess the show already basically did it all, so there was nothing new to add.
Language-learning wise, it's pretty hard to focus when you're reading stuff that you could just watch. It really just became a "spot the difference" exercise for me, where I would load an episode at 4x and then skim-read the corresponding Japanese.
If you're reading this stop after chapter 2. Then just watch the show.
2 stars for the first 2 chapters. the missing 3 stars after that are for each chapter after that sucked.
