A nice addition to the JoJo universe

This book presents the events of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure part 1 (Battle Tendency) and part 3 (Stardust Crusaders) from the point of view of Dio, in the form of a diary. It also contains some of the things shown later in part 6 (Stone Ocean), and explains them in more depth.

If you want to read this book, I suggest you should at least have read/watched JoJo part 1, part 3, and maybe the first half of part 6 (episode 12 in the anime).

Over Heaven manages to connect many ideas and plot elements appearing in parts 1,,3 and 6 and gives the reader a deeper understanding of things that were sort of glossed over (at least in the anime). For those of you who have read or watched part 1-3 a long time ago it might also be a nice opportunity to revisit some of the things that happened at the beginning of the series.

I'm also impressed with how Nisio Isin portrays Dio in a convincing and familiar way while also showing the different facets of this seemingly simple and yet complex character. In my opinion none of the things shown in this book are "new" and it's pretty true to the source material. The author merely gives us a slightly different perspective of the things that transpired in the story. But it is precisely that shift in perspective which allows us to see the connectedness of different themes inherent to the story in a new light.
