Charming and relaxing show
This show is a lot of fun. One of the unique features of the show is that it was "synched" up to real life. It was a weekly show so every episode = 1 week in the show, 52 episodes = 1 year has passed in the show, etc. Since time is consistently moving in the show, its nice to see them grow throughout from a first year student to a second year student and so forth. I've only watched the first season so far but plan on continuing the rest later.
The show itself is very light and upbeat. I think it would be hard to not be happy while watching this show. It just has very positive vibes all around. There is the occasional conflict that pops up but the show never drags it on. No melodrama here.
Every episode (besides a single one that I can think of) includes a 1-2 minute CGI performance usually near the end. Generally it is a performance for one of the girl's auditions. The show is based off an arcade game where you get cards that are outfits and in the show, the girls collect these cards for their own performances. There is always a small sequence where it shows everyone filling in the card slots (top, bottom, shoes and accessory). I guess if you were into the arcade game then it's nice to see what cards they are using but it kind feels like filler in the show when every episode shows them filling in the slots. I think the longest one was a 5-person performance and it showed each individual girl at a time filling in the 4 slots one-by-one with a card.
When I first started watching I thought the CGI performances were really ugly and almost dropped it but I'm glad I stuck around. By the end I grew used to them and it became charming in its own way. The music is really good too, there's quite a few songs I grew fond of by the end of the first season.
Language wise, this show is really easy. There are a few characters with some unique quirks (one of them speaks in like broken English, another has an idol gimmick that they are a vampire, etc) but overall the language is straight forward. Even if you're not familiar with idol stuff, I think you can pick up on it really quick with the language they use in the show.
Overall I'd recommend this to anyone that wants something that is light with very positive vibes. The language is easy enough to be your first anime as well.
