Challenging, but Hilarious and Charming
This novel was really hard to read in some sections. There were parts where I didn't know what was going, but overall, I really enjoyed it! As someone who is a fan of Spy x Family, I felt that this story was pretty accurate to the source material and there are even some elements in here that I want to see more in the manga/anime.
As this is a short-story collection, I'm going to review them one by one.
アーニャの自然教室: The most popular story in here, this is the one where Anya and Damian get lost in the forest during a school trip. There are some hard parts in this one, especially if you aren't familiar with Spy x Family, but it gets easier after the text-heavy intro. People who really like the Plan B plotline in Spy x Family will like this one.
ユーリの休暇: Thanks to Yuri's role as the Secret Police officer, this book has some government terminology, which makes some parts of this difficult. However, I really recommend this one because it has Yuri and Anya interacting with each other. I kind of wish they interacted more in the manga/anime. Fun fact: this is the manga author's favorite story.
フランキーの新あらたな恋こい!?: I... actually didn't fully understand the ending for this one, but I like it. It starts off pretty easy until it throws some curveballs, but then again, my Japanese reading comprehension skills went down due to stress at the time. If you really like Franky and Loid's friendship, you'll like this one. Just note that Anya and Yor aren't physically in this one. Fun fact: the manga author also loves this story.
フォージャー家けの肖しょう像ぞう画が!?: This one is hilarious, and probably one of the easier stories in here. Loid and Yor trying desperately not to have a photo-realistic portrait taken of them and put in an art museum is Spy x Family at its finest. If you made it past the first three stories, you can make it past this one. There's nothing too complicated about this story.
ファミリー(休): Some don't consider this a story due to its length, but I'm putting it here because I think it counts. There were some parts where I had to either reread it or move on from, but it's easy to understand otherwise. I think it's worth reading due to the comedy, but I wish they didn't explain the joke at the end. That said, don't skip it, because it's worth it.
Overall, you'll have an easier time if you're a Spy x Family fan, but be aware that this book will be a challenge. Despite that, it's a hilarious book that I recommend to those who can read it.
